Receipt printers can be connected to your terminal in different ways, and the setup steps will vary depending on the connection type. Use the guides below to set up a new printer, switch between connection methods, or troubleshoot printing issues. Follow the section that matches your printer's configuration.

Setting up a new receipt printer

The steps required to set up your receipt printer depend on how it's connected to the terminal. Select the connection type that matches your printer and follow the instructions below.

Printer connected via COM port

Follow the setup steps for configuring a printer connected through a serial (COM) port.

Printer connected via USB

Before the printer can print, you'll need to:

  1. Complete the USB mapping to link the printer to the correct Windows device.

  2. Configure the printer settings within the EPoS software.

  3. Test print a receipt to confirm communication between the terminal and printer.

⚠️ Important: You'll need the appropriate permissions to configure printers. If you can't access Program Mode, raise a support case for assistance.

Changing a printer's connection type

If you've replaced a printer or changed how it's connects to the terminal, follow the relevant guide:

Switching from USB to Network or COM

Use this process when replacing a USB-connected printer with a network or serial (COM) printer.

Switching from Network or COM to USB

Use this process when replacing a network or serial (COM) printer with a USB printer.

Printer has stopped working or isn't printing

Follow the checks below in order. Most printing issues are resolved during the initial troubleshooting steps.

For all printers

Work through the troubleshooting guide to check:

  • Power and cable connections.

  • Printer status lights or error indicators.

  • Windows printer detection.

  • EPoS printer configuration.

  • Test printing.

For kitchen printers

In addition to the standard checks, send a test order from the till. This helps identify whether:

  • The order reaches the system but fails to print, usually a printer configuration issue, or

  • The order never reaches the printer, usually a connection or hardware issue.

Still not working?

Raise a support case and include:

  • Printer model

  • Printer serial number

  • Whether the printer is making sounds, feeding paper, or showing any lights

  • Whether other printers are working correctly

  • Any error messages displayed

  • The troubleshooting steps already completed

📌 Note: Providing this information upfront will help us diagnose the issue more quickly.
