Access has introduced Canopy Remote Monitoring and Management (RMM) across the EPOS estate. Canopy gives the Access support team a real-time view of the health of your EPOS devices, allowing issues to be detected and resolved faster â often before they affect your service.
đNote: Canopy is installed and managed entirely by Access. You do not need to configure or interact with it.
What Canopy is
Canopy is a purpose-built remote monitoring and management platform designed for connected hardware such as EPOS systems. It gives the Access support team a centralised view of every device across your estate, so problems can be identified and resolved without the need for a site visit.
Canopy is a Software as a Service (SaaS) platform, meaning there is nothing for you to install or maintain on your side. All management happens through the Canopy cloud platform, which the Access team accesses directly.
How Canopy is installed
Canopy uses a lightweight software agent called Leaf, which is installed on the host controller device at your site â typically your main EPOS till.
Leaf uses minimal system resources and is designed to run quietly in the background without affecting till performance.
Once installed, Leaf connects securely to the Canopy cloud platform and begins sending device health data.
No local ports are opened on your system. All communication uses standard outbound HTTPS on port 443 â the same connection type used by web browsers.
đ¤Tip: If your site uses a firewall or content filter, ensure outbound HTTPS traffic on port 443 is permitted. Contact the Access support team if you need help confirming this.
What Canopy does
Real-time device monitoring
Canopy gives the Access support team a live view of every EPOS device across your estate, including hardware health, software status, network performance, and peripheral connectivity. When the status of any device changes, the team is notified immediately.
Proactive alerting
Rather than waiting for you to report a problem, Canopy alerts the Access team when a device reaches a defined threshold â for example, if disk space is running low or a peripheral loses connection. This means many issues are identified and resolved before they affect your service.
Remote access and diagnostics
When an issue requires investigation, the Access support team can connect directly to your EPOS device remotely. This includes:
Viewing and controlling the EPOS screen as if sitting in front of it.
Transferring files and reviewing system logs.
Restarting services or applying configuration changes.
This removes the need for a site visit in the majority of cases, reducing the time it takes to resolve an issue.
Automated self-healing
Canopy can run automated workflows when a problem is detected. Common examples include automatically restarting a crashed service, clearing a cache, or re-establishing a network connection. These actions happen without human intervention, resolving the issue faster.
đNote: If Canopy takes an automated action on your device, the Access support team will be notified. You may be contacted if follow-up is needed.
What this means for you
Benefit | What it means in practice |
Fewer disruptions | Issues are detected and often resolved before they affect your service or revenue. |
Faster resolution | When issues do need human intervention, the support team already has full diagnostic context and can act remotely. |
No site visits for most issues | Remote access and automated fixes mean engineers can resolve the majority of problems without attending your site. |
Proactive communication | Access can identify and communicate issues to you before they escalate. |
Frequently asked questions
Does Canopy affect my till performance?
No. The Leaf agent is designed to use minimal system resources and runs in the background without affecting day-to-day EPOS operation.
Is my data secure?
Yes. All communication between the Leaf agent and the Canopy platform is encrypted using Transport Layer Security (TLS). No local ports are opened on your system, and no inbound connections are made to your network.
Can Access control my till without my knowledge?
The Access support team can connect to your device remotely to diagnose and resolve issues. This capability is used only for support purposes. If you have questions about a specific remote session, contact the Access support team directly.
Do I need to do anything?
No action is required from you. Canopy is installed and managed by Access. If you have any questions or concerns, contact the Access support team using the Access Digital Assistant.
